As part of a large initiative to make New York “Senior Friendly,” Manhattan Together leaders have conducted a survey of stores on Broadway from 72nd to 110th Streets. We identified certain stores that meet our criteria: access to a bathroom, a drink of water, and a place to sit down. No purchase is necessary to ask for any of these basic amenities! A number of these stores offer a discount as well. What’s more, Duane Reade is working with Manhattan Together to ensure that all its stores on the Upper West Side are senior friendly.
All you have to do is print out our brochure (link below) and take it with you whenever you go shopping or for a walk on Broadway. Or if you’re not a senior, we would appreciate it if you would print some brochures and offer them to your Upper West Side relatives, friends, and neighbors who are seniors.
The brochure is designed to be printed in color. If you do not have access to a color printer, simply print it in black and white, back to back, then fold it up and take it with you. Or, if it’s easier for you, simply print the pages separately, staple them together, fold them to fit in your bag, and you’re ready to go!
If you find that an employee needs to be reminded that the store offers the above-mentioned amenities, be sure to point to the listing of that store in your brochure.
Finally, you can click on "Contact" in the upper right corner above to tell us your experiences visiting the stores on our list.
